<p>Cross Country Marathon 100 km Mountain Batur Caldera TrailBatur is a land of unparalleled scenic beauty located within one of the most diverse geographical areas on earth. Batur high land in the Kintamani district in Bangli regency, it has retained its essentially agrarian. It is wondrous history and geography are still the defining aspects of everyday life. The character of Batur bike trails is that these places are blessed with beautiful sceneries and pleasant climates. The experience is made up entirely of off-road excursions on a series of challenging surfaces including forest trails, red mud hard-pack, volcanic sand, lava cobbles, gravel and broken tarmac roads. There are sections of single-track in every ride, but no long rocky or root sections or big drops. As far as gradients are concerned, all the trails except one have an overall down-hill element to them. A few steep ascents and descents are also part of the program, but these are normally short and sharp. These trails are rich in natural and cultural attractions such as Batur Mountain and Batur Lake or other enchanting sceneries. They also feature convenient location, rare plants and animals, nice weather, and rich ecological resources. In addition, cyclists may undergo an experience of the Balinese lifestyles. <p>We set off at 6am from Jimbaran Bay in the south, 204 riders in total, all wearing Bali Audax Jerseys. The route took us west along the coast, with some small climbs. Apart from one other mountain bike, and a folding Brompton-esque bike (!), everyone was riding high-end road bikes, tubeless tyres, aero wheels etc&#8230; I found that I would pass most people on the uphills and then watch them all fly past me on the flats/downhill, as it was just impossible to keep pace with my mountain bike. So apart from the sections at the start where everyone would ride as a big group, I found myself riding on my own a lot.</p>
<p>After 3 hours we arrived at the first stop. I was worrying about the minimum average speed so made a brisk toilet stop, and downed some food and water, only for it to become apparent that there was no minimum speed, as we were told to wait for everyone to arrive before leaving. As in turned out, no one would have completed the first day in the maximum time! </p>
<p>Lunch was at Negara, another 2 hours or so later. The heat had really begun to kick in and I felt pretty dreadful. I found I didn&#8217;t have much appetite or thirst, but knew I should consuming a lot of food and drink. I took my shoes off and sat down away from the crowds. But then more people arrived and all started walking around me. Worrying that people would step on my toes with cycling cleats, I was trying to pull my feet out the way and was getting cramp in doing so. Not ideal! At that point I was feeling daunted by the remaining distance.</p>
<p>Fortunately, there was a big rainstorm, which really cleared out my headache, and gave me a second wind to push on to the next checkpoint at Gilimanuk. This was the furthest west that the route would take us. All other checkpoints were in large carparks, with shops etc&#8230; apart from this one, which was just at the side of the road. Feeling a lot fresher, I had my card stamped and carried straight on.</p>
<p>However, the heat became a problem again and I had to take shelter in the shade a couple of times. The second time was pretty rough, and the thought of drinking was making me feel sick, so I got off my bike and lay down. Soon after, the support ambulance arrived, lights flashing away, which was rather embarrassing as several large groups of cyclists passed, assuming I had crashed, injured etc&#8230; when I was just having a rest, albeit a rather enforced one. Despite the paramedic informing me that it was 20km to the next checkpoint at Pulaki temple, I believed that I was a lot closer &#8211; it turned out to be about 15km closer!</p>
<p>Having taken in a lovely sea view at Pulaki and a not so lovely strawberry fanta, I was on to the last stretch. Perhaps somewhat foolishly with respect to the next day, I got excited at the thought of getting off my bike, and found myself powering through the last section to Lovina, arriving 12 hours after I had begun in Jimbaran, 138 miles away.</p>
<p>The next day began slightly later at 7am, and although rather sleepy, I felt ok and my legs still intact. The route took us through Bali&#8217;s second largest city, Singaraja. I don&#8217;t know if it was impromptu or organised, but the school kids (yes school is on Saturday too) had lined the streets to cheer us on, waving flags and looking for high fives. The first two sections were relatively easy but I was trying to keep in a low gear to save energy, as the third section was a 400m steep climb past Mount Abang. The second checkpoint, before the climb, was at a dive school, which had outdoor showers. Seizing any chance to cool off, I had a shower in my bike kit.</p>
<p>By now, the ride had taken its toll on the participants, with the start of the climb leaving riders sat on the roadside. After a short rest, I began to tackle the ascent up Abang, ironically named, as my knee almost made that sound. Despite keeping a high cadence, I felt a really sharp acute pain in my right knee. Instantly thinking that was my ride over, I shifted down into the granny ring and thankfully I didn&#8217;t experience any more pain for the remaining 60 miles or so! Climb over, we were greeted by a sweeping view of rice paddies, palm trees and the sea in the distance, coasting for the 10km to lunch. The next section was mostly downhill as well, although I began to fear I had taken a different route, as there were long periods where I saw no other riders. Feeling similar to how I felt on the section before Pulaki on the first day, the heat left me sat under some trees, eating an extremely melted snickers. Eventually made it to the second to last checkpoint, and from there found some energy to pedal on to the next, where we were told to wait as the organisers wanted us to negotiate the heavy traffic as a large group. </p>
<p>Finishing just in time for sunset, we arrived on the beach for dinner and medals. Although there were only about 30 people there. I thought I was near the back of the 204, but turned out I was in the first group to arrive! Think the heat/tiredness had confused me a bit. Unfortunately, some riders did not arrive for another 2 hours, and so arrived in the dark.<br />
As my first audax experience, the Bali Audax was incredible. But after 250 miles on a hardtail, in 30 degree heat, I&#8217;m looking forward to getting out on my road bike in Britain even more so.</p>

<p>Audax BALI 2011:</p>
<p>Kami berangkat pada 06:00 dari Teluk Jimbaran di selatan, pengendara 204 secara total, semua mengenakan Bali Audax Jerseys. Rute ini membawa kami ke barat di sepanjang pantai, dengan beberapa memanjat kecil. Selain dari satu sepeda gunung lainnya, dan sepeda lipat Brompton-esque (!), Semua orang naik high-end jalan sepeda, ban tubeless, roda aero dll .. Saya menemukan bahwa saya akan lulus kebanyakan orang di uphills dan kemudian menonton mereka semua terbang melewati saya pada flat / menurun, karena itu hanya mungkin untuk mengikuti dengan sepeda gunung saya. Jadi selain dari bagian di awal di mana semua orang akan naik sebagai sebuah kelompok besar, saya menemukan diri saya naik banyak saya sendiri seorang.</p>
<p>Setelah 3 jam kami tiba di pemberhentian pertama. Aku khawatir tentang kecepatan rata-rata minimum sehingga membuat berhenti toilet cepat, dan menghabiskan beberapa makanan dan air, hanya untuk itu menjadi jelas bahwa tidak ada kecepatan minimum, karena kami disuruh menunggu untuk semua orang untuk tiba sebelum pergi. Seperti di Ternyata, tak seorang pun akan telah menyelesaikan hari pertama dalam waktu maksimal!</p>
<p>Makan siang di Negara, lagi 2 jam kemudian. Panas benar-benar mulai menendang dan saya merasa cukup mengerikan. Saya menemukan saya tidak punya nafsu makan banyak atau haus, tapi aku tahu aku harus mengkonsumsi banyak makanan dan minuman. Saya mengambil sepatu dan duduk jauh dari keramaian. Tapi kemudian lebih banyak orang datang dan semua mulai berjalan di sekitar saya. Khawatir bahwa orang akan menginjak kaki saya dengan cleat bersepeda, saya mencoba menarik kakiku keluar jalan dan mulai kejang dalam melakukannya. Tidak ideal! Pada saat itu saya merasa gentar dengan jarak yang tersisa.</p>
<p>Untungnya, ada badai besar, yang benar-benar membersihkan kepala saya, dan memberi saya angin kedua untuk mendorong ke pos pemeriksaan berikutnya di Gilimanuk. Ini adalah barat terjauh yang rute itu akan membawa kita. Semua pos-pos pemeriksaan lain di carparks besar, dengan toko-toko dll .. selain dari yang satu ini, yang hanya di sisi jalan. Merasa jauh lebih segar, aku punya kartu saya dicap dan dibawa lurus.</p>
<p>Namun, panas menjadi masalah lagi dan aku harus berlindung di bawah naungan beberapa kali. Kali kedua itu cukup kasar, dan pikiran minum membuat saya merasa sakit, jadi aku turun dari sepeda dan berbaring. Segera setelah itu, ambulans dukungan tiba, lampu berkedip jauhnya, yang agak memalukan sebagai kelompok besar beberapa pengendara sepeda berlalu, asumsi saya telah jatuh, terluka dll .. ketika aku hanya sedang istirahat, meskipun yang agak dipaksakan.Meskipun paramedis menginformasikan saya bahwa itu adalah 20km ke pos pemeriksaan berikutnya di Pura Pulaki kuil, aku percaya bahwa aku jauh lebih dekat &#8211; ternyata menjadi sekitar 15km dekat!</p>
<p>Setelah diambil dalam pemandangan laut yang indah di Pura Pulaki dan stroberi tidak begitu indah Fanta, saya ke peregangan terakhir. Mungkin agak bodoh sehubungan dengan hari berikutnya, aku senang memikirkan turun dari sepeda, dan menemukan diriku powering melalui bagian terakhir ke Lovina, tiba 12 jam setelah saya mulai di Jimbaran, 138 mil jauhnya.</p>
<p>Hari berikutnya mulai sedikit kemudian di 07:00, dan meskipun agak mengantuk, aku merasa ok dan kaki saya masih utuh. Rute ini membawa kami melalui kota terbesar kedua di Bali, Singaraja. Saya tidak tahu apakah itu dadakan atau terorganisir, tetapi anak-anak sekolah (ya sekolah pada hari Sabtu juga) telah berbaris di jalan-jalan untuk menghibur kami di, melambaikan bendera dan mencari high five. Dua bagian pertama relatif mudah tapi aku berusaha untuk tetap di gigi rendah untuk menghemat energi, sebagai bagian ketiga adalah pendakian curam 400m terakhir Gunung Abang. Pos pemeriksaan kedua, sebelum mendaki, berada di sebuah sekolah menyelam, yang telah mandi luar ruangan. Merebut kesempatan untuk mendinginkan, saya mandi di kit sepeda.</p>
<p>Sekarang, naik telah mengambil korban pada peserta, dengan dimulainya pendakian pengendara meninggalkan duduk di pinggir jalan. Setelah beristirahat sebentar, saya mulai menangani pendakian sampai Abang, ironisnya bernama, seperti lutut saya hampir membuat suara itu. Meskipun menjaga irama tinggi, saya merasakan nyeri akut benar-benar tajam di lutut kanan saya. Seketika berpikir bahwa adalah perjalanan saya di atas, aku bergeser ke dalam cincin nenek dan untungnya saya tidak mengalami sakit lagi selama 60 mil tersisa atau lebih!Memanjat, kami disambut oleh pemandangan sawah, pohon kelapa dan laut di kejauhan, meluncur untuk 10km untuk makan siang. Bagian berikutnya adalah sebagian besar menurun juga, meskipun aku mulai takut aku telah mengambil rute yang berbeda, karena ada periode panjang di mana saya tidak melihat pengendara lain. Merasa mirip dengan bagaimana aku merasa pada bagian sebelum Pura Pulaki pada hari pertama, panas meninggalkan aku duduk di bawah beberapa pohon, makan snickers sangat meleleh. Akhirnya berhasil sampai ke kedua pos pemeriksaan terakhir, dan dari sana menemukan beberapa energi untuk pedal ke berikutnya, di mana kita disuruh menunggu sebagai penyelenggara ingin kami bernegosiasi lalu lintas berat sebagai kelompok besar.</p>
<p>Finishing hanya dalam waktu untuk matahari terbenam, kami tiba di pantai untuk makan malam dan medali. Meskipun hanya ada sekitar 30 orang di sana. Saya pikir saya berada di dekat bagian belakang 204, tapi ternyata aku berada di kelompok pertama tiba! Pikirkan panas / kelelahan telah membingungkan saya sedikit. Sayangnya, beberapa pengendara tidak datang selama 2 jam, dan begitu tiba dalam gelap.</p>
<p>Sebagai pengalaman pertama Audax saya, Audax Bali yang luar biasa. Tapi setelah 250 mil pada hardtail, di 30 derajat panas, saya tak sabar untuk keluar di jalan sepeda saya di Inggris bahkan lebih.</p>

<p>Kecelakaan sepeda sebenarnya dapat dihindarkan/dicegah sepanjang anak-anak diajarkan dan mengikuti aturan keselamatan bersepeda.</p>
<h3>Proteksi</h3>
<p>Tidak ada aturan yang mengharuskan bahwa ketika kita bersepeda harus mengenakan helm, untuk dewasa pun untuk anak-anak. Namun demikian tidak salahnya kita mengenakan dan menganjurkan anak-anak kita menggunakannya saat bersepeda. Rangsang, anak-anak kita mengenakan helm dengan menempelkan stiker-stiker menarik atau biarkan mereka ‘berekspresi’dengan menghias helm mereka. Buat ia tertarik dan ‘bangga’ dengan mengenakannya.</p>
<h3>Pakaian Sepeda</h3>
<p>Ajarkan anak Anda untuk memakai pakaian yang tepat saat dia bersepeda. Tinggalkan jauh-jauh pakaian longgar yang bisa menjadi penyebab Anak Anda terjerat dalam rantai sepeda, termasuk tali sepatu panjang dan celana longgar.</p>
<p>Tali ransel yang kelewat panjang juga dapat terjebak dalam sebuah rantai sepeda atau jari-jari. Sandal jepit dan sandal harus dihindari karena mereka dapat dengan mudah lolos dari pedal. Jangan biarkan Anak-anak Anda naik sepeda sambil bertelanjang kaki. Ingat itu!</p>
<h3>Reflektor</h3>
<p>Lengkapi anak-anak anda dengan pakaian/kelengkapan bersepeda dengan reflektor. Misalnya mengenakan pakaian warna terang atau neon glow. Regulator lalulintas di Amerika malah menyarankan, ketika bersepeda di jalan raya lengkapi dengan bendera untuk membuat mereka lebih mudah dilihat oleh pejalan kaki dan pengendara kendaraan bermotor lain.</p>
<p>Sebuah bel atau klakson memungkinkan anak untuk memperingatkan pejalan kaki di dekatnya. Anak-anak juga harus diajarkan secara lisan memperingatkan pejalan kaki dan pengendara sepeda lain ketika bersiap-siap untuk melewati mereka.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Tour  Ring Bali is cycling tourism program in Bali Island, which is  combination holiday and sport activities. All the time touring are 8  days and will be visit tourism object pass by tour program. The  participants are cyclist any nationality with own bike or rental bike.  The goal of the tour is peacefulness. The touring team work comes from  the Bali Cycling Federation member. They are expert on cycling guide,  bike mechanic and touring management. We are always beside you from  pickup at airport until return to home and we prepared your  accommodation, tour program, meal for  breakfast, lunch and dinner  with  Indonesian food  and refreshments all the of cycling time.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Bicycle </span></strong><strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">We are prepare mountain bike  or bring your bicycle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Tour Ring Guide</span></strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Our  tour guide will be with you at all times when you are cycling on a tour  program. The guide should have extensive knowledge of the area, and will  be able to keep you on course, and on schedule throughout the holiday.  The advantage of a touring is that you don&#8217;t have to worry about finding  your way, and can therefore focus your efforts on enjoying the riding  and the scenery. The guide will also be able to show you hidden routes  and point out interesting landmarks that you might never have found if  you were on your own. The guide can take you to places that you would  never have considered riding before and can be a real experience. You  will also get to meet other people in the group and potentially strike  up new friendships. One thing to consider is that because you will  inevitably be part of a larger group (not always the case for shorter  tours), flexibility will be limited to what the group as a whole wants  to do. You will also be expected, within reason, to keep up with the  group, so always check the grading allocated to that holiday and ensure  it&#8217;s within your limits. Speak to the tour operator beforehand if you  have any concern.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">We have  local guides to show the way. These are experienced competitions riders  having represented Bali in national competitions. A guide will be  assigned to lead each group and to unsure you are led safely to each  day’s endpoint. As there will be many junctions and turns, please follow  your guide and refrain from breaking from your group. Navigation data  be issued daily during dinner the night before.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">What is the road condition like </span></strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Generally,  the road surface is good but the road surface is good but there will be  rougher surface and potholes in some areas. Except in and round major  cities, most drivers are considerate to cyclists riding by the side of  the road. However, a vehicle may pass by close enough to make you ride  off the road onto the gravel path next to it, but this should not happen  often. The organizers have made every effort to avoid busy roads.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Rider Behavior Tour Ring Bali </span></strong></span></p>
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li>A  rider must obey the road rules. If a dirt ride is on roads or tracks  that are not covered by the road rules, a rider must, as far as  reasonably practicable, comply with the road rules as if they did apply  on those roads or tracks.</li>
<li>A  rider may ride on their own or with other riders taking part in the  ride. A rider may draft behind other riders taking part in the ride, but  must not draft behind any rider not taking part in the ride.</li>
<li>A rider must obey the reasonable requests of the organizer and any support person.</li>
<li>A  rider must be courteous to, and behave in a sporting manner towards,  other riders taking part in the ride, the organizer and all support  people.</li>
<li>A rider must not engage in any behavior that may bring Tour Ring Bali into disrepute.</li>
<li>Tour Ring Bali participants to respect the customs of Bali communities.</li>
<li>Make  sure that your bicycle is in good  working condition. It is your  responsibility to have your      bike checked and service  before the  rider. Things to look out for. Brake pads, gear and brake cables,  balding tires, trueness of wheels, smooth shifting of gear, comfortable  seat height.</li>
<li>Helmet and gloves must be worn when riding.</li>
<li>Wear bright clothing whenever  possible, to make yourself  more visible to motorist.</li>
<li>Do not ride alone. Stay with your group and its guide.</li>
<li>When cycling through village, always be on the lookout for children, chickens and dogs. Slow down on approaching a village.</li>
<li>Do not follow too closely behind fellow riders, especially when going downhill or in the dark (early morning or evening).</li>
<li>Avoid riding abreast other cyclists. Rider in a single file as par possible.</li>
<li>Turn around regularly to make sure the rider behind you is within sight; slow down if otherwise.</li>
<li>Be  alert and attentive while riding. Establish. Eye contact with motorist  and pedestrians if you are about to cross their path. Do not hesitate  call out to warn other road users of your approach.</li>
<li>Look  out for vehicle in front of you even if they are going in the opposite  direction. Oncoming vehicle attempting to overtake the vehicle in front  of them may swerve info your path.</li>
<li>Check  back regularly and listen for vehicle coming from behind you, even if it  sounds like a motorcycle. Be prepared for inconsiderate drivers who  blast their horns as they are passing you.</li>
<li>A  friendly wave usually goes long way. Don’t forget there are other riders  in front and behind you and aggravating motorist may endanger  your  fellow riders.</li>
<li>Be  cautions when you rider past parked vehicle (doors may be flung open in  your path); and be extra cautions in school areas or where there are  children playing, or animals grazing.</li>
<li>Use  hand signals to warn you riders behind you of hazards ahead and for  making intention clear. Point to road hazards (eg potholes) as you pass  them.</li>
<li>If you  must stop (for a break or for repairs), make sure you and your bike get  off the road completely. Avoid stopping at bends a round blind spots  that put you at high risk of being hit by passing vehicles.</li>
<li>Should you stop for a toilet or drink break, look after your bike and belongings.</li>
<li>If you  should choose to rest at location that is not visible to passing  vehicles, please indicate your location (perhaps by parking you bike by  the roadside) so that the passing support crew can sport you and render  assistance if necessary, or simply to account for you.</li>
<li>Warm up stretch well before stating a rider and warm down after it.</li>
<li>Wear  padded short. To avoid nasty abrasions, you might want to bring some  Vaseline or similar lubricant. Please approach one of the organizing  committee members if you do not know where to apply this. Padded seats  (foam or gel) might help.</li>
<li>Wear  gloves and shock. To might experience numbness on your hands an feet on  long riders. Make sure you change handlebar positions frequently, sit up  and stretch while riding or pull off the road to a safe spot to do it  you have to.</li>
<li>Pace yourself according to the distance to ride.</li>
<li>Protect your eyes-it could be a hot and dry ride. Use eyewear-shaded or clear.</li>
<li>Apply  sunscreen and lip balm as required and protect the exposed parts of your  body from sunburn with arm covers, tight, etc. the  cheeks, nose  and  back of your neck are particularly vulnerable parts.</li>
<li>Arm  protectors are highly recommended. For cheap and simple pair of arm  covers, buy a cheap pair of women’s tight. Snip of the leggings and use  those for arm covers.</li>
<li>You may want to bring a light raincoat or wind-breaker for cold or wet days.</li>
<li>Hydrate.  The night before, during and after a ride, have a sip of water every 15  min or so; never you wait till you are thirty-that usually to late.</li>
<li>Try to carry some basic essentials with you luggage.</li>
</ol>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff0000;">Tour  Schedule</span></h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Day 1. Arrived in Bali – Pickup at Airport – Prepare Cycling tour </strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Day 2 . Kuta – Tanah Lot – Alas Kedaton – Marga  &#8211; Bedugul  (80 km  from 10m to 1300 m sea level)<br />
</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Tanah Lot</strong> means “Land in the Middle of the sea” in Balinese language. Located  about 20 km from Denpasar, the temple sits on a huge offshore rock which  has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Tanah  Lot is said to be the work of the 15th century priest Nirartha. The  story goes that during his travels along the south coast he saw the  rock-island’s beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw  him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little  island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine  on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese  sea gods.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The  Tanah Lot temple was then built and has been an important part of  Balinese mythological history for centuries. The temple is one of seven  sea temples around the Balinese coast. It was said that each of the sea  temples was to be within eyesight of the next so that they formed a  chain along the south-western coast.<br />
At the base of the rocky island, poisonous sea snakes are believed to  guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. There is said to be  one giant snake which also protects the temple. It is believed that this  snake was created from Nirartha’s scarf when he established the  island.  The area leading to Tanah Lot is highly commercialized and  people are required to pay to enter the area. To reach the temple,  visitors must walk through a carefully planned set of Balinese  market-format souvenir shops which cover each side of the path down to  the sea. <p style="text-align: justify;">Desa  Banjar is one of the most important for history of North Bali from  pre-history up to the era where Indonesian struggle for Independence.  This administrative area of Kabupaten Buleleng has some places of  interest that have been well known by the visitors to Bali.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>Old Villages</strong></em> : Around Desa Banjar are many older villages of Bali, which is believed  to have been earlier to settle Bali compared to other lowland  residents. Those villages such as Sidatapa, Tigawasa, and Pedawa  village. It is not considered old is Tamblingan village, although the  fact that this village is already recorded in a king charter dated 11th  century. It is probably the location of Tamblingan is on the trade route  between south and North Bali, so this village has been developing  faster compared to those, so their oldness is not visible, or simply  forgotten. <p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>Oldest and Biggest Buddhist Monastery</strong></em>;  in Desa Banjar is exist the biggest and oldest Buddhist monastery in  Bali. Despite the fact that Buddhism developed much earlier on south  Bali, but it is not found significant Buddhist organization and  construction both monastery or temple. Buddhism arrived in Bali as old  as the Hindu did, and even there is an assumption based on the finding  of clay tablet in Pejeng area that the Buddhist might arrive earlier  then the Hindu. The clay tablet stamped with the Buddhist mantram called  &#8221; yete &#8221; showing a great similarities with those clay tablets found in  the area of Prambanan temple of 7th century. Later due to the syncretism  between Buddhism of left hand path with the Shiwaitic sectarianism of  Hindu, the Buddhism seemed to have been absorbed by the Shiwaitic path  and bearing a different practice of conducting a religious activities.  This tradition can still be seen until today that the priest of the  Hindu conducting the same ritual together with the Buddhist priest for  certain big Hindu ritual. A remnants of what is called &#8221; Tantrayana &#8221;  Buddhist and the Shiwa Bairawa can be seen at Pejeng that is the temple  of Kebo Edan. The remains of the practices such as sculptures, altars  and others reminds of the strong practice of the left hand path Buddhism  and Shiwaism around 13th century.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>Hot Water Spring</strong></em>;  this is located very close to the location of the village and very  popular among foreign visitors to enjoy the scenery and hot water  bathing. <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Lovina</strong> is a relatively new name coined in the 1950s by a local<strong> Buleleng</strong> Regency official with a good eye for future tourism-based development.  It essentially consists of seven traditional villages which all merge  into one on a ten kilometre stretch of the main road which hugs the  north coast west of Singaraja: Temukus, Kalibukbuk, Anturan, Pemaron,  Tukad Mungga, Banyualit and Kaliasem. <strong>Kalibukuk</strong> is the main hub of this area and is often thought of &#8220;Lovina town centre&#8221;.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Pura Medue Karang  (we called The Cycling Temple)</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The  main tourist center back then (everything being relative, of course) was  Denpasar and getting there meant driving through the highlands from  Singaraja. <p style="text-align: justify;">Tirta Gangga<strong> </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Tirtagangga </strong>royal  watergarden is composed mainly by water, plants and sculptures. It is  situated in the middle of rice fields around the natural springs of <em>Rejasa, </em>approximately 7 km. (5 miles) north of <em>Amlapura,</em> the main town of east Bali, Indonesia. Tirtagangga is a well-known cultural object of Bali. It belongs to the royal family of <em>Karangasem</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The  area of the watergarden is about 1.2 ha (3 acres), consisting of three  levels of ground stretching from east to west. On the highest northern <a href="http://www.tirtagangga.nl/Sculplan.htm#Triloka"><em>Swah</em></a><em> </em>level there are the spring under the <a href="http://www.tirtagangga.nl/Banyan%20tree.htm">Banyan tree</a>,  the upper swimming pool and two decorative ponds, one with four  fountains reminiscent of Versailles, and the other with Victoria  lotuses.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The first thing one sees when entering the garden is the elegant eleven-tiered <a href="http://www.tirtagangga.nl/Sculplan.htm#Nawa_sanga"><em>Nawa Sanga</em></a> fountain which rises from the middle of the complex. This fountain together with the two ponds form the middle <a href="http://www.tirtagangga.nl/Sculplan.htm#Triloka"><em>Bwah</em></a> level.The larger lowest <a href="http://www.tirtagangga.nl/Sculplan.htm#Triloka"><em>Bhur</em></a> level, on the left side of the straight foot path running from the  entrance to the west, is occupied by the big South pond with the long  Demon island in the middle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>HOLY WATER</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The  water from one of the natural springs of Tirtagangga has always been  regarded as holy. It is used for religious ceremonies in the temples in  the area until today. <em>Tirta</em> means blessed water, <em>gangga</em> cames from Ganges, the holy river in India. The holy water is required  for ceremonies of the temples in the surrounding as far as Tirtagangga  can be reached by foot.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">At  certain celebration days the people from the villages around will come  in colourful processions with offerings, umbrellas, flags and other  attributes. Led by their temple priest they hold ceremonies around the  spring under the sounds of hymns and the music of the <em>beleganjur</em>.The  springs have a huge output of pure water. The water is first led to a  reservoir where it is divided in two parts. One third provides drinking  water for the town <em>Amlapura</em>. The remainder goes into the upper  swimming pool through an underground pipe. The overflow of water goes  into the lower swimming pool, the other ponds and finally to the rice  fields.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Taman Ujung</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Taman  Ujung Sokasada was the residence of Karangasem Royal Family between 1909  and 1945. It was built in 1919 by the late King of Karangasem, I Gusti  Bagus Jelantik. The King of Karangasem Djelantik with his wives (yes,  plural..) and children lived here, and it is also their proud place to  welcome royal guests from other regions and even countries. It is very  interesting to look at their private rooms with old style traditional  bed, old family photos hang on the walls.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There  is always a little altar table in each room, something very mystical and  typical balinese for me..There is even one area where you can not touch  or step further inside, that’s the King &amp; Queen bed (off course,  who wants to jumpin’ around on the King of Karangasem bed!). I noticed  one interesting photo on which a dutch wife of King Karangasem featured.  So yes, this royal family has now western blood with this beautiful  culture melange!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Candi Dasa</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Most sources say a fishing village was founded on the site by the 12th century and before the modern name of <em>Candi Dasa</em> was adoped it was known as both Teluk Kehen (&#8220;Bay of Fire&#8221;) and  Cilidasa. There is a temple near the lagoon, with a statue of the  fertility goddess <a title="Hariti" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hariti">Hariti</a> surrounded by a group of children, and <em>cilidasa</em> translates from Balinese as &#8220;ten children.&#8221; The modern name is thought  to be a corruption of this older name. The town began to catch on as a  tourist destination in the 1970s, since there is good snorkeling and  diving in the area and the town provides easy access to other  destinations in eastern Bali. In the 1970s and 1980s, the area received a  large amount of investment in tourism and a construction boom. To fuel  the construction of beach bungalows, new homes and restaurants, the  offshore reef was mined for lime to make cement and other construction  materials. This removed the coastal barrier that had protected the beach  which was undermined and washed away. Local hotel owners constructed a  series of t-shaped <a title="Groyne" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groyne">groins</a> jutting out into the water in an attempt to preserve the beach, with mixed results.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the famous tourist destination in the district of Gianyar is Goa Gajah. <strong>Gua Gajah (Elephant Cave)</strong> which is located in west side of <strong>Bedulu</strong> countryside, Blah Batuh Sub district and Gianyar Regency. While it once was a haven for scruffy backpackers, cosmic  seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a hot spot for literati,  glitterati, art collectors and connoisseurs. Famous names walk its busy  sidewalks everyday. Elegant five star hotels and sprawling mansions now  stand on its outskirts, overlooking the most prized views in Bali.  Nonetheless, Ubud is still popular with backpackers, mystics and all the  finest fringe elements of global society. Ubud is not &#8220;ruined&#8221;. Its  character is too strong to be destroyed. It still draws people who add  something; people who are actively involved in art, nature,  anthropology, music, dance, architecture, environmentalism, &#8220;alternative  modalities,&#8221; and more.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Day 7. Ubud – Kintamani Penelokan – Ubud (80km from 600m to 1300m to 600 m sea level)<br />
</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mount  Batur (Gunung Batur) is an active volcano located at the center of two  concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung, Bali, Indonesia. The  south east side of the larger 10×13 km caldera contains a caldera lake.  The inner 7.5-kilometer-wide caldera, which was formed during  emplacement of the Bali (or Ubud) ignimbrite, has been dated at about  23,670 and 28,500 years ago.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The SE  wall of the inner caldera lies beneath Lake Batur; Batur cone has been  constructed within the inner caldera to a height above the outer caldera  rim. The Batur stratovolcano has produced vents over much of the inner  caldera, but a NE-SW fissure system has localized the Batur I, II, and  III craters along the summit ridge. Historical eruptions have been  characterized by mild-to-moderate explosive activity sometimes  accompanied by lava emission. Basaltic lava flows from both summit and  flank vents have reached the caldera floor and the shores of Lake Batur  in historical time. The caldera contains an active, 700-metre-tall  stratovolcano rising above the surface of Lake Batur. The first  historically documented eruption of Batur was in 1804, and it has been  frequently active since then.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The  caldera is populated and includes the two main villages of Kedisan and  Toya Bungkah. The locals largely rely on agriculture for income but  tourism has become increasingly popular due to the relatively  straightforward trek to the summit of the central crater.</p>

The experience is made up entirely of off-road excursions on a series of challenging surfaces including forest trails, red mud hard-pack, volcanic sand, lava cobbles, gravel and broken tarmac roads. There are sections of single-track in every ride, but no long rocky or root sections or big drops. As far as gradients are concerned, all the trails except one have an overall down-hill element to them. A few steep ascents and descents are also part of the program, but these are normally short and sharp. These trails are rich in natural and cultural attractions such as Batur Mountain and Batur Lake  or other enchanting sceneries. They also feature convenient location, rare plants and animals, nice weather, and rich ecological resources. In addition, cyclists may undergo an experience of the Balinese lifestyles. <p>Starting  point  from Pidpid Village in agrarian area  at east of Agung mountain  735 m elevation.  Eventually this turns into single-track which turns south, continuing along the ridge top to the coast. Downhill trough the single track, villages, rice field, and The ride ends on a beautiful white sand beach at Virgin beach at 15 m elevation.  The long of track 39 km and  th advance cycling skill level recommended.</p>

Before lunch we crossed paths on the one hand there are gaps, cyclists have to be careful and across the fields toward a small restaurant to enjoy lunch with Indonesia foods.  After lunch continue to tarmac, path in the countryside and finish at Tangkub  Village.</p>

<p>Preparing and maintaining your bike in tropical climates</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Enjoying a tropical holiday does not have to be on the beach and at the resort. Many tropical destinations also offer amazing biking trails that visitors can enjoy at their own speed. But there are some precautions that you need to take when biking in tropical climates, both for your bike and for yourself. If you are going to a foreign country, remember to get a <a href="http://www.insure4less.com.au/">travel insurance</a>, as there are risks of injury with any biking trip.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Before you head out for your ride, you should do a cursory check-up of your bike. Whether it’s a rental or your own bicycle, doing these check-ups will prevent possible problems during your hike. First, check the pressure of the tires. There’s nothing worse than biking on under- or over-inflated tires, especially if there is no way to remedy the problem during your hike. Check the rims and the spokes, and make sure everything looks sturdy and undamaged.</p>
<p>You should make sure that the handlebar is straight, and that you can steer easily. The handlebar and the seat should be solidly attached to the frame of the bike. If needed, tighten the bolts around the handlebar and the seat. Given the climate, the bolts might loosen faster than in temperate regions. Make sure that oil isn’t oozing out of the joints, and if so, replace it.</p>
<p>Of course, brakes are very important to check before any hike. Try the bike on a short distance at low speed to test them. Again, the heat might affect the breaks in ways you are not aware of. Check the brake cables and the brake pads, and make sure that the break handles respond quickly. Always make a cursory inspection of the chain as well. Again, the heat might use the oil faster than you’re used to. The chain shouldn’t stick or jump.</p>
<p>If you’re not used to hot climates, there are also certain things you should do for yourself. The most important thing is to remain hydrated. Even in humid climates, the heat is going to make you sweat and you need to replace those fluids. Keep cold water to splash on your head and neck. Something that athletes like to do is to put a little salt and lemon or lime juice with the water to help with absorption.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Wear light, wicking clothes that absorb sweat and dries quickly; cotton is a bad choice since it is slow to dry. Most sports store have clothing especially made for exercise in hot weather. Wear good shoes, and of course don’t forget your helmet! Even if it’s hot, the helmet might save your life if you’re in an accident. And of course, if that should happen, you’ll have a <a href="http://www.insure4less.com.au/">cheap travel insurance</a> to cover the medical costs. But of course, we don’t wish that for anyone, and if you take all the precautions it will most likely not happen. Have a great ride!</p>
